Welcome to 4th Grade

This is a big year for your child. Fourth grade is a time for students to show their independence coupled with more responsibility. In order to make their time in fourth grade and incredible experience, there are a few things you and your family can do. Here are some things to get us started.

NUTRITION: Please be sure your child eats a healthy breakfast. Our snack time will be at 9:45 every morning. We do have a peanut allergy in our class so NO SNACKS WITH PEANUTS OR PEANUT BUTTER! ABSOLUTELY NO EXCEPTIONS.

HOMEWORK: Homework is not a punishment, it’s an opportunity for your child to show you what they’ve learned and what they’ve been working on.  If homework is received 1 day late, they will receive 10% off their grade. If it is turned in later than one day they receive a 0 on the assignment. The only exceptions are when a student is absent.  Generally, there will be very little, if any, homework on Thursdays’ as I would expect the students will be studying for the weekly spelling and religion tests.

COMMUNICATION: The best way to contact me is through email. resler@stgermaine.org. If you need to speak with me personally, you can email me to schedule an appointment or contact Mrs. Latessa in the office to schedule on my behalf. Please understand that my time is limited and planned in advance. The only way I can meet with you before or after school is with an appointment. Everyone should’ve received an email from me by now, if you have not, please email me at the above address so I can add your email to the list. If you do not use an email address, please let me know so I can be sure to send any notifications etc to you through your child’s mailbox.

MATH & SOCIAL STUDIES: Your child will be going to Ms. Mulrenin’s class for math and social studies as her students will be coming to my room for science and religion.

CURSIVE WRITING: By the end of 3rd grade, your child was writing most of their assignments in cursive. We will continue this in fourth grade. If your child has not mastered cursive writing, we will continue to practice and work on perfecting it this year. No worries!

READING LOG: Starting the second week of school, your child will be required to keep a reading log. They are expected to read 4 days a week/20 minutes a day. The logs will need to be initialed by and adult or older responsible sibling J this reading log is weighted directly into their reading grade. It will be reviewed every Monday for a grade. The late 10% rule applies to the reading log as well.

SEPCIAL OCCASIONS: Birthdays and holidays are always a fun time in the classroom for the students and the teacher! Birthday treats are welcome, but please keep it simple and remember NO PEANUT PRODUCTS. For other events, I will send home a letter or link to sign up genius asking for help in the classroom or with supplies/snacks.
